Device Independent Bitmap
A Device-Independent Bitmap (DIB) is a type of raster image file, similar in composition to the conventional Bitmap files (BMP/image/bmp). The distinctive feature of a DIB is its color table, which outlines the correlation between RGB colors and pixel values. This characteristic empowers DIB files to represent images accurately on any device. DIB files maintain widespread compatibility, as they can be opened with nearly all applications capable of opening standard BMP files, irrespective of the operating system, be it Windows or macOS.
Portable Pixmap
PPM, which stands for Portable Pixmap, is a straightforward image storage format. It supports three types of images: color (PPM), grayscale (PGM), and black and white (PBM). These formats are particularly useful as an intermediary representation during the conversion of raster image files between different platforms. The development of the PPM format is credited to Jeff Poskanzer.
